Hanif came to the UK as a refugee with indefinite leave to remain. His English wasn't great and he wasn't sure about how things work in the UK. Hanif was working but he was struggling to make ends meet so a local charity referred Hanif to us so that we could do a benefits check which we did using an interpreter to make sure that Hanif was able to understand everything.
It turned out that Hanif was eligible for Universal Credit to top up his income which was a huge help because he has small children and his wife isn't well.
He is now able to work and to get some help with rent and childcare costs which has made a real difference to his ability to manage.
Citizens Advice often works in partnership with other charities in Lancaster District so that we can offer our services to everyone who may need some help.
